Winter Odds at a Glance

While most of the people believe that Ladakh is inaccessible in the winters, this may be the best time to visit Ladakh for the adventurous souls. Winters in Ladakh hardly see any tourists and you can have all of its stunning barrenness to yourself. Visiting Ladakh in winters is a chance to see this magic land as it has existed for centuries. The two most exciting activities during the season are Snow Leopard Expedition and the word famous Chadar Trek.

The Chadar Trek

One of the most stunning and exhilarating winter treks across the blue planet, the Chadar Trek is a thrilling expedition over the frozen Zanskar River. The trail provides an excellent opportunity to explore the ancient culture of Zanskar, which is a blend of Tibetan and Indian cultures. In addition to this, a trekker can also spot some exotic wildlife species such as blue sheep, snow leopard and ibex that can be found in the frozen surroundings.

Snow Leopard Expedition

Ladakh’s Snow Leopard is the most enigmatic and elusive of all the world's large cats. A denizen of high mountain ranges, its presence is more often revealed by footprints in the snow but, as previous Nature trek groups can verify, with planning and luck it is possible to see this mythical mammal. With the aid of local trackers and guides this adventurous expedition goes in search of Snow Leopards amid the mountains of Hemis National Park in Ladakh. This is a physically demanding holiday utilizing basic local homstay and camping but the rewards will be the truly spectacular mountain scenery of the ancient kingdom of Ladakh and a real chance of finding this high altitude predator as it follows the resident Bharal, or Blue Sheep, to more accessible lower elevations for the winter months.
